On July 18, 2024, I participated in the 5K Verizon run, marking a significant milestone in my recovery journey since my near-fatal car accident in 2019. This event was more than just a race; it was a testament to resilience, determination, and the incredible support I received from my team at Optum. In preparation, I dedicated about two weeks to training around Sunset Lake, each lap a little over a mile. My strategy was simple yet effective: alternating between a 1-minute walk and a 1-minute jog, sometimes extending to a 2-minute jog.

This was my first major run since the accident, and I was keenly aware of the importance of pacing myself. Taking it one step at a time, literally and metaphorically, was my mantra. The support and camaraderie of my Optum team were invaluable, providing the motivation and encouragement needed to stay focused and positive. Crossing the finish line was an emotional and triumphant moment, symbolizing the progress I’ve made since 2019. This run was about overcoming obstacles and embracing challenges.

I’m deeply grateful for the unwavering support from my team and everyone who believed in me. This milestone is just the beginning, and I’m excited about the journey ahead. Here’s to achieving even bigger milestones and continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Together, we’ve turned a significant challenge into a powerful triumph. Here’s to many more milestones and successes ahead!
